SportyParticipant
I mainly do cardio and performance-based athletic exercise (e.g. hitting a punching bag or running sprints) as I do not want to gain too much bulk. Though in the future, I will probably hit the weights more and put on about 15-20 pounds of muscle.
SportyParticipantI don’t run outside as often as I’d like, but whenever I run on my treadmill, I usually only do 1 to 2 miles, though I have my treadmill on a 4 percent incline so the intensity is a decent bit more than normal.
SportyParticipantI would start by trying to do a light jog (4 to 5 mph, or like 7 kph) on your treadmill for about half a mile or about 1 kilometer. If you get winded, lower the speed to a brisk walk so you can recover, then go back up to a light jog again until you reach that half mile point. Keep doing this until you can jog the entire half mile without slowing down, then gradually increase the distance.
SportyParticipantI always wear basketball shorts and a good-fitting t-shirt along with specific shoes I use almost exclusively for working out. Nothing expensive, just stuff that ‘works’.
SportyParticipantI currently work in retail helping sort boxes and stock shelves. It’s a pretty tough job physically and it does not pay that much, but like Aaron I am looking for another job.
SportyParticipantI think a lot of it is genetics, unfortunately. People store their fat in different ways. “Spot reduction” is a myth, so you can never really target a specific area to lose fat in, aside from surgery, all you can do is try to lose as much body fat as possible overall.
SportyParticipantI think the diet is good for most people, but it is just incredibly hard to stick to, and you have to do it right.
I’ve read that grass-fed beef (expensive, I know) and eggs are two of the best things you can eat on the carnivore diet, and that taking supplements (to make sure you are getting all your vitamins and minerals) is also smart.
SportyParticipantInteresting idea, would definitely help you burn some extra calories.
I currently wear steel toes at my job, so I feel like every step I take I am burning a little bit more calories than normal haha.
SportyParticipantSeems like most people workout in the morning. Is that when you all have the most energy? I feel like my energy levels peak in the afternoon.
SportyParticipantI rarely do ab work, but only because I HATE working my abs.
I need to train them more often, I think twice a week is a good starting amount.
SportyParticipantI drink more water than I used to, but I still drink soda. I never have more than one can or bottle in a day though, and I stay away from a lot of other sweet/sugary stuff to make up for it. It’s tough to give up soda completely, at least for me.
SportyParticipantFrom what I have read, concentration curls seem to activate the biceps more than barbell curls. So if you are focusing on growing your biceps, I would mainly do concentration curls.
SportyParticipantSean is right, you need at least one rest day for each muscle group so your muscles have time to adequately recover in preparation for your next workout.
One tip for building muscle is to focus on doing your exercises in the 8 to 12 rep range. Doing too many or too little reps in each set is not optimal for hypertrophy.
SportyParticipantRunning, not jogging, is the best form of cardio exercise in my opinion. You do not have to do all out sprints, but running at a brisk pace for 200 to 400 meter intervals (with ample rest in between), is really effective at both weight loss and improving the strength of your heart.
SportyParticipantI do a lot of planks. They are a great exercise for your core, especially if you do all sorts of variations. I personally like to do normal planks and side planks, holding them for as long as I can.
