Okay, it’s official, many of us are now in lockdown. Now, as dramatic as that sounds, it’s really not all that bad and besides which, the sooner we all comply and stay inside, the sooner we will get back to normal.
Being on lockdown may seem extreme, but it is a proven and effective strategy when it comes to preventing the spread of disease, so it is a necessary evil.
Until we have things under control, we will be house/garden bound for the most part, which is why it’s so important to stay fit and healthy during these unprecedented times.
Exercise is not only great for the waistline, the immune system, and your health in general, it is also fantastic for your mental health.
That’s why we’re sharing these tips with you today on how to stay fit and healthy during a lockdown.
Drink plenty of water
Staying hydrated is absolutely vital when it comes to our health and well-being, regardless of what is happening in the rest of the world.
We need water in order for our muscles to function correctly, we need water for the brain, we need water for the heart, in fact, we need water for virtually every physiological process imaginable.
Water is also vital for the immune system, so be sure to drink plenty of water, which is ideally mineral water or filtered.
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables
Another top tip when it comes to staying fit and healthy during a lockdown is to ensure that you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Going to the shops for fresh produce is not ideal because we want to minimize the amount of time that we spend outdoors. This is why we should purchase packs of frozen fruits and vegetables, as they will keep indefinitely in the freezer and they often contain more vitamins and minerals than fresh.
Because they’re packed full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, fruits and vegetables are great for boosting the immune system and staying healthy.
Exercise
Right now, we are being asked/told to stay at home and stay indoors as much as possible in order to stop the spread of the Coronavirus known as Covid-19.
As important as this is, it is not an excuse to spend our days sat watching TV, playing video games, and generally not doing much physical activity.
Many of us are able to leave the home once per day to exercise, so why not head out for a walk, run, or cycle, whilst making sure to keep your distance from other people.
You can also get into the garden and either do some gardening, or just work out at home. There are plenty of home workouts you can find online, as well as YouTube training videos and exercises that you can do at home with virtually no equipment at all.
If you do have any fitness equipment, now is the perfect time to get it out and start training.
How you choose to spend your next few weeks will determine how healthy you are and what kind of shape you are in when we do return to a sense of normality.
