While we all have different ideas of what makes the perfect physique, one thing that most fitness enthusiasts do agree upon is the fact that having a set of ripped six pack abs can certainly do wonders for your physique. Burning fat and losing weight is easy if you believe the personal trainers and “influencers” on Instagram, but we know that the real world is decidedly different to how it is portrayed on social media. If you want to lose weight and burn fat, starvation is not the answer. It is very possible to eat yourself thin, as long as you eat the right foods on a regular basis. If you want to burn fat to reveal your abs, here’s a look at a number of foods that you can eat to increase fat loss.

Salmon

Salmon is one of the healthiest foods in the world. It is considered to be a superfood, and for good reason too. Salmon is a great source of protein, making it ideal for muscle growth and repair. This is very important because lean muscle mass helps to increase your metabolism, meaning that you burn more calories than usual. Protein is also thermogenic, which means that it takes longer to digest and breakdown, so it increases your metabolism further, and keeps you feeling full. Finally, salmon is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which provide numerous benefits, including helping to ramp up your metabolism. If you can, opt for wild salmon as it is much healthier than farmed, and it tastes amazing.

Oatmeal

If you want a healthy way to start your day, you can’t go wrong with a bowl of oatmeal. Oatmeal is a great food for fat loss because it is a complex carbohydrate source. This means that it has a low glycaemic index, so it takes much longer to digest and breakdown when consumed. It therefore provides a steady stream of energy after consumption, which fuels your body for several hours. Oatmeal is rich in B vitamins which boost the metabolism, as well as minerals such as zinc and iron. On top of that, as it stays in your stomach for longer, it increases your satiety levels so you stay full for longer.

Coconut oil

It may sound odd to some of you, but eating fat is actually a great way of burning fat. The catch is that the fat has to be a healthy and natural fat, such as coconut oil. Coconut oil is almost 99% saturated fat. That may seem shocking, but not all saturated fats are bad for us. The fats in coconut oil are fantastic for your heart, blood pressure, circulation, brain, and your metabolism. What’s more, coconut oil is rich in MCTs. MCTs are medium-chain triglycerides, and these are metabolized much quicker in the body than other fats. Rather than being broken down and metabolized slowly, MCTs are instead used quickly, so they provide energy for your body, rather than being stored as body fat. Coconut oil also tastes wonderful as well.
